American Subcontractors Association of Michigan Announces 2019-2020 Michigan Contractor of the Year Nominees
The American Subcontractors Association of Michigan (ASAM) announced today the nominees for its Tenth Annual MCOY (Michigan Contractor of the Year) Award. MCOY recognizes Michigan’s general contractors and construction managers with a track record of best practices, professionalism, and collaboration within the subcontracting community.

ASAM members will vote to determine which of these nominees will take home the coveted award. Nominees will be scored on the following criteria: bid ethics & practices, safety, jobsite supervision, communication, schedule coordination, project relations, administrative procedures, payment terms, and quality workmanship.
“This year, the celebration will not only honor the winning dream team but also the decade-long history of MCOY and its impact on West Michigan’s construction industry,” said Steven Coates, ASAM President.
Every year, the winner, honorable mentions, and nominees all have the opportunity to meet with ASAM leadership to review their MCOY results, including raw data and voter comments (which remain anonymous).
“The fact that many of these companies are embedding this feedback into their operational guidelines, and using the MCOY award as a business goal, speaks for itself,” said James Bockheim, ASAM Vice President & MCOY Chair. “The end result is a community of top-notch contractors and trade contractors working as a team to improve year after year.”
The MCOY Award will be presented during a ceremony at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park on October 17, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Keynote speaker, John Ratzenberger—star of Cheers, voice of Pixar, and advocate of subcontractors and the trades—will deliver a powerful and entertaining presentation that will leave everyone inspired. Cocktails and dinner will be served.
