March 2011 General Membership Meeting

At the March 9 General Membership meeting, an audience of 28 heard Stephen Hilger of Hilger Hammond present a Primer on Michigan Construction Liens (a more in-depth version of his talk can be hosted during a Lunch + Learn session available to individual companies).

To ensure getting paid, there are three things subcontractors will want to consider, Hilger said. They are contracts, liens, and bonds. In his talk, Hilger spoke about privity, lien scenarios, Notice of Commencement, Notice of Furnishing, sworn statements, lien wavers and the lien foreclosure option, as well as downstream and upstream bonds.
