American Subcontractors Association Michigan February 2012 General Membership Meeting
Prevailing Wage & Fringe Benefits: Comply with the Law AND Maximize Profits
Ann M. Plummer, CPA, Partner, Beene Garter LLP
Jack VandeGuchte, Controller, Sobie Company Inc.
A crowd of more than fifty attended the February ASAM general membership meeting to hear “Prevailing Wage & Fringe Benefits: Comply with the Law AND Maximize Profits.” The presentation was made by Ann M. Plummer (Beene Garter LLP) and Jack VandeGuchte (Sobie Company Inc.).
Ann Plummer began her presentation with the reminder that there are differences between projects funded by Federal and State tax dollars which subcontractors need to be aware of. “Contractors often don't know which prevails,” she said. “If it's federal funded, Davis-Bacon will prevail.” She also cautioned that in federally funded projects, 20% of the budget is for compliance officers, and they will be around asking questions.
Plummer's PowerPoint presentation included headings such as:
- “General Misconceptions or Common Questions”
- “Wage Information – Federal vs. State”
- “Eligible Fringe Benefit Credits – Federal and Michigan”
- “Fringe Benefit Contributions”
- “Opportunities to reduce costs and improve profitability”
Highlights of the presentation can be found in the members section.
