What are the MCOY Awards?
The MCOY (Michigan Contractor of the Year) Awards are the premier annual recognition presented by ASAM (American Subcontractors Association of Michigan). Each year, General Contractors and Construction Managers who demonstrate excellence — through best practices, professionalism, and collaboration with Michigan’s trade contractor community — are honored with this prestigious award.
Beyond recognition, MCOY is the night when Michigan’s construction industry comes together. It’s a time to connect, celebrate, and strengthen the partnerships that keep our industry moving forward.

How Does MCOY Work?
The MCOY Award is a distinction that must be earned. It’s based on direct feedback from the industry.
nomination
General Contractors are nominated for the awards by the West Michigan subcontractor community.
rating & voting
ASAM members rate and vote on the nominees. Voters include trade contractors and suppliers. This is not a popular vote or an award that can be purchased, but an honor earned through the demonstrated quality of a firm’s work and relationships.
evaluation criteria
Members score the candidates based on performance in key areas, which historically include: Bid ethics and practice, Safety, Jobsite supervision, Communication, Project relations, Payment terms and Quality workmanship.
