Construction Workforce Development Alliance of West Michigan

The Construction Workforce Development Alliance of West Michigan (CWDA) was created by the American Subcontractors Association of Michigan (ASAM), Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Michigan (ABCWM),  and Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids (HBAGGR). The goal of CWDA is to redefine the image of the construction industry and to promote career opportunities within the industry.

webuildmi.org

The CWDA has developed an online resource (webuildmi.org) for the West Michigan construction industry. This website offers general industry-centered information, opportunities for employment and information about educational programs. As a central hub for information from multiple sources, the website serves a resource for parents and students exploring the industry, industry professionals looking to advance their career and individuals looking to make a career change into this fast-growing industry.

Construction Core Certification

CWDA is collaborating with Grand Rapids Community College M-TEC (GRCC) and Ml Works! of Allegan and Kent counties to offer a specialized training program – the Construction Core Certification (CCC). The curriculum is designed to fill specific availabilities for incoming and advancing workers in the industry. It is structured into a multi-module format so that participants can take the full CCC or a 100-hour program, or they may select specific modules to focus their training. There are two learning tracks – Commercial Construction and Residential Construction.

Construction Jumpstart Program

The Jumpstart Program is a three-week intensive version of the Construction Core Curriculum designed specifically for  high school graduates. Once the program is completed, students have the opportunity to hear from a panel of professionals in the field about specific career tracks in construction. Each student is guaranteed two interviews with contractors in the West Michigan region who are hiring entry-level skilled tradespeople. Full scholarships are available.
