AMerican Subcontractor Association of michigan

Membership Pledge

Built one-for-one from the nine MCOY voting criteria, restated from the subcontractor’s side of the table. The symmetry is the point: these are the standards ASAM members hold general contractors to every February, and signing the application is where members commit to the same standards themselves.

1. Bid Ethics & Practice

We bid with integrity on both public and private work. We honor the scope and price we quote, we respect the confidentiality of quotes we receive from our own vendors and subcontractors, and we neither engage in nor invite bid shopping or bid peddling.

2. Administrative Procedures

We return contracts, submittals, RFI responses, and change order pricing within the timeframes we agree to. We ask questions rather than make assumptions, and we hold our own vendors and subcontractors to the same standard.

3. Communication

We communicate candidly, openly, and professionally. We raise concerns early, while they can still be solved, and we share both successes and challenges with everyone the project affects.

4. Project Onsite Supervision

We put experienced, competent supervision on every job, in sufficient numbers to meet the project’s needs. Our supervisors take the lead on site challenges and treat every person on the site with respect and dignity.

5. Schedule Coordination

We make realistic commitments and staff the work to meet them. We participate honestly in schedule planning, communicate changes as soon as we know of them, and work to solve roadblocks rather than document them.

6. Quality Workmanship

We meet or exceed applicable industry standards for our trade. We correct deficiencies promptly and without argument when the work is ours, and we contribute to the exploration of best practices and better methods.

7. Safety

We maintain a safe work environment, train our people, follow site-specific safety requirements, and hold ourselves accountable to the same standards we expect of others. Any member of our crew may stop work over an unsafe condition.

8. Payment Terms

We pay our vendors, suppliers, and lower-tier subcontractors promptly and in accordance with our agreements. We flow down fair terms rather than pushing risk downhill, and we do not withhold retainage or payment beyond what our contracts allow.

9. Project Relationships & Collaboration

We approach every project as a team effort. We handle concerns cooperatively and reasonably, engage in collaborative problem-solving, and conduct ourselves in a way that protects the reputation of every trade contractor on the job.
